Book Description

Dragon Stone is an epic fantasy, a tale of heros and heroines written for the enjoyment of young and old.

From the Author

It was winter 2002 and I had just finished reading Tolkien's works again. I first read the Hobbit and Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy during my college years, soon after Tolkien's death. I will admit to sulking for a time. I usually do when I finish a good book. There would be no more Tolkien works, after all. Dead men don't write. (sigh)

I missed his gentle, elegant style. I have many favorite authors, but Tolkien was the one who sparked my addiction to fantasy. Could I write a book like Tolkien's work? Well, not really. I am not Tolkien by any stretch of anyone's imagination. In addition, should any writer wish to write like another? No, probably not. However, this gives you an idea of my frame of mind during the long, cold winter of 2002 when I began to write this book.

In Dragon Stone, the first book in a series of three, we meet our first young hero, Althus, and send him on a quest to find the Wizard who raised him. Along the way, he gathers valuable allies and terrifying enemies and finds himself the subject of chilling prophecy. Suddenly, he finds himself responsible for the lives of the people he left behind.

I wrote Dragon Stone for young adults as well as adults who are young at heart. I apologize for the few big words my editor couldn't persuade me to eliminate. I attribute my overblown vocabulary to the many books I read as a child and I would like to make my own contribution to yours. The writing style is a bit formal. You may find the hidden logic in it as the story moves through books two and three.

There is a list of characters at the end of the book to help you keep them straight.

May you find as much pleasure reading Dragon Stone as I did in writing it. Sulk just a little when you are done. Book two will be available in February 2005.
