Book Description
A dark tale set in Megalithica, Breeding Discontent tells the story of Lisia, a hostling in a secret Varrish breeding facility, forced to make pearls - new life - on demand by the military.

The Gelaming general, Ashmael Aldebaran, and a unit of his troops are on duty in Megalithica, when they uncover the hidden facility, which has been abandoned by its administrators. Only a group of struggling survivors remain: former hostling Lisia and nearly two hundred harlings.

Lisia, suspicious of the Gelaming, fears the possibility of death or imprisonment, or at the very least eviction from his home. Will Ashmael follow orders to the letter and tear this community apart, or will he show mercy to the living products of the facility? And how will Lisia and his charges react to those who have come to liberate them, when liberation feels like conquest?

The past and the present begin to overlap, as Lisia's chilling history is told through the pages of his diary and he struggles to fight for his future, and the welfare of those in his care.

About the Author
Wendy Darling

Wendy Darling wears many hats -- web designer/goddess, editor, community activist, stylin' clothes hound, writer, and more.

As a web designer, Wendy has designed and maintained web sites for institutions, small businesses, non-profit organizations. Currently Wendy works four days a week at a university, one day a week at a non-profit neighborhood development agency, and seven days a week for her part-time consulting company Metro Girl. In 2001, Wendy launched Inception an entirely web-based Storm Constantine fan site, featuring essays, reviews, artwork and poetry on a quarterly schedule.

Other hobbies include LiveJournal, reading, editing, mass transit activism, collecting obscure reference books, and chocolate.

Bridgete Parker

According to family members, Bridgette Morvant Parker was telling stories even as a toddler. And her love for all things spooky and supernatural was evident even at that tender age. (Adult listeners were generously forewarned, "Now this is the scary part.") Infamous for scaring other kids with her tales, it was little surprise that her childhood career goals progressed as follows: witch, writer, social worker, newspaper reporter. Ever adaptable, Bridgette has successfully tried her hand at each career (well still working on the witchcraft).

Bridgette's other hobbies include online amateur writing communities, exercise at home, Live Journal, reading, simple crafts, and -- given the opportunity -- telling scary stories.
