About the Author
Toni Leland's career with horses-both professionally and personally-has spanned over fifty years. Her personal love affair with these creatures has been an ongoing affliction since she was a young girl, and, in the early eighties, she owned and showed some of the horses described in her book, Winning Ways. Her professional experience with horses and writing consists of eighteen years in the equine publishing industry: as a graphic designer and publicist for many horse farms; as the owner and publisher of two equine bimonthly trade magazines; and, since 1994, as the owner/editor of two small trade presses.
Toni began writing fiction in 1999, completing three equestrian-oriented novels: WINNING WAYS (romantic suspense), HEARTS OVER FENCES (contemporary romance), and mainstream thriller GAMBLING WITH THE ENEMY (which finaled in the 2005 international EPPIE awards), and two juvenile chapter books: CHRISTA MEETS A MINI and CHRISTA JOINS A HORSE CLUB. Additionally, Mrs. Leland has sold short stories and poetry to several anthologies. Leland's lifelong involvement with horses and horse-folk gives her fiction a realism that makes it not only enjoyable, but educational.
