About the Author
With a writing style all her own, Ebony Stroman-Clarke is a Queens, New York native. Growing up in one of Queens' roughest toughest Projects (BAISLEY), she is no stranger to The Hood. Loyalty, strength and wisdom were embedded in her at an early age. In April of 2002, Stroman was put to the ultimate test! Her mother, Sabrina Stroman passed away; leaving her to raise her two younger sisters, who were 11 and 14 years old at the time. Like the true soldier she is, Stroman simply dealt with it. She didn't use this devastating and life-altering loss as an excuse to leave her incarcerated husband, abandon her sisters or even depend on the welfare system. Instead, she continued to work as a legal secretary at a New York PI Law Firm. However, the firm fell on hard times, eventually causing the partners to halt its practice. For the first time since age 14, Ebony was unemployed. During this time she began writing The Hood in an effort to pass time. After sharing this project with her husband, Danté, he not only encouraged her to finish, but also helped her develop the story line as well. In the middle of writing her first book The Hood, a job she applied for awhile back reared its head. The job was NYPD. Stroman joined the police academy, but it didn't take long for her to realize; her heart was not in the job and NYPD was not where she wanted to be. After two months, Ebony resigned. With the help, patients, understanding and encouragement of her husband and sisters, she pursued getting her book published. This too proved to be a difficult task, causing Ebony to once again, take charge of her own destiny.
At the tender age of 22, Stroman started her own publishing company EBANDTE INC. PUBLISHING. Without distribution or a major publisher behind her, Ebony hit the streets of New York selling her books hand to hand to street vendors and everyday people in Harlem, Downtown Brooklyn and 42nd Street.
EBANDTE is a combination of the couples name; [EB]ony AND Dan[TÉ]. Ebony's sophomore project THE GAME CHOSE ME was released in March of 2005 to rave reviews. In 2006 Ebandte Inc. Publishing plans to release a full line-up of gritty, raw and edge-of-your-seat novels from newcomers Anthony Walker-Unfallen Roses: Petals & Thorns, Latacia L. Thompson-Street Gloree and Creation of A Gangster by Danté Clarke. This young, savvy business woman continues to run a successful publishing company, author future novels and recruit new, talented authors for Ebandte's roster. In the future you can look out for the series of non-fiction books Ebandte Inc. Publishing plans to branch out to. The rest is history.
