Author Mallori McNeal began writing Down Chick at age 14, during the summer before she began her first year in high school. She completed Down Chick and was accepted for publishing at age 16. Mallori currently lives in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Mallori McNeal began writing Down Chick at age 14, during the summer before she began her first year in high school. She continued to write the novel as she studied creative writing at Cincinnati's School of Creative and Performing Arts. She completed Down Chick while in the tenth grade, at age 15, and was accepted for publishing at age 16. Mallori lives in Cincinnati, Ohio with her parents and has aspirations of completing a second novel.
