About the Author
Amber Jo Illsley was born in the Tasman district, in northern South Island, New Zealand. After leaving school she had a series of temporary jobs before becoming a busy dressmaker/designer, at first working for a local company and then continuing her work on exclusive garments for individual customers.
Wrist injuries were the catalyst for a change in career and as she had always loved writing, the career transition from clothing design and manufacture to writing was an easy one. She moved to the West Coast of the South Island where she continued with writing novels and poetry and also took up the position of writing in-depth profiles on local identities for a local newspaper.
That work expanded over the years into writing/photographing all types of subjects for up to eleven publications at a time and also included two stints as editor of community newspapers.
Writing experience has also included lyric writing for a Swiss band, rural reporting (sometimes via interpreter) in other countries, and writing for television. She has won awards in the International Library of Poetry.
The author now lives on the East Coast of the South Island and enjoys the company of her pets.
