Book Description
Tom Ryan and Meg, his new wife, were born in Boston, Massachusetts. They got married after they finished their schooling and decided to spend their lives exploring the nation's frontier territory. Their families, both extremely wealthy, were against such a plan, but their headstrong young ones put their faith in God, joined a wagon train and headed West. Bubba Andrews was the experienced trail boss of a forty wagon train. He had crossed the country sixteen times: eight times to the west and eight times to the east. His scouts were two Indians, Little Foot and Arrow. Les Rowell, a good looking man with one arm and a beard, was in charge of security.
Three months after departing Boston, the wagon train was intercepted by a small tribe of Indians, the Tejas-Shonee, whose proud chief was War Eagle. The Indians begged the wagon train to let them follow the last wagon for protection from Commancheros and warring tribes who had almost killed them off. The wagoneers took the pitiful tribe under their wing, and a warm family feeling was established between the reds and the whites.
On the suggestion of the trail boss, Bubba, the wagon train deviated from its route to Oregon to a small town in West Texas named Bell. A huge lake, fed from snow capped mountains, supported wild life with abundance, caused a majority of the wagons, including Tom and Meg, to feel they had found the place they wanted to spend the rest of their lives.
The town began to prosper when word got out how beautiful and prosperous the area was. War Eagle and his tribe also settled in Bell, and became very close to Tom and Meg.
A beautiful young Indian maiden, Princess Sunshine, accompanied Meg when she went to Boston to show the grandparents their new granddaughter, Sara, who had been born on the trail. A fabulously wealthy young doctor, Jim Fannin, fell hopelessly in love with Sunshine.
When they returned to Bell, Meg was kidnapped. Some of the ranchers in the area caused trouble to the law in Bell. Trail dusty cowboys give the author the opportunity for his readers to enjoy Texas humor. Many seemingly impossible situations are meticulously ironed out, and the story ends on a warm note.
